PEOPLE in Warrington, especially motorists, are being urged by health chiefs to take extra care during heavy rainfall.
NHS bosses are advising people to take care when driving and to plan journeys in advance to avoid difficulties during the adverse weather conditions.
Dr Andy Davies (pictured), local GP and chairman of Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Periods of severe weather always put additional pressure on health care services, especially A&E, so it’s really important that people only use A&E for what are there for…Accidents and Emergencies.
“We really need the support of people and ask them to think carefully before going to hospital with minor symptoms.”
He suggests that minor injuries and illnesses can be treated at home, or by visiting a pharmacy. For other more severe symptoms, such as vomiting, stomach ache or back ache, a GP can help.
For choking, chest pain, severe bleeding or blacking out, he suggests going to A&E or calling 999.
