A WARRINGTON charity has won support from Liverpool and England footballer Steven Gerrard.
He is supporting a youth campaign by North West charity Deafness Support Network DSN).
It aims to raise awareness of the causes of deafness and how young people can act now to prevent potential hearing problems later in life.
There are an estimated 34,800 children and young people under 25 with severe to profound deafness in the UK. DSN aims to encourage young people to take action at a younger age and a simple hearing test is the first step.
Steven said: “Young people don’t fully realise the risks they run of serious hearing loss and even deafness. I’m keen to support the campaign by DSN and I want to encourage young people to take simple steps that can help them avoid permanent damage. That’s advice worth listening to!”
The charity has a support centre in Wilson Patten Street, Warrington where a range of support services is provided.
Operations executive Gill Reeder said: “It’s really important for young people to be aware of how deafness can be prevented early on and we’re delighted that Steven Gerrard will be a key player in helping us make young people listen up.”
Details of the new youth campaign will be announced in April.
