DETECTIVES at Warrington today released CCTV images of man they are seeking following a bungled raid on a local convenience store earlier this week.
The raid was at the Co-op on Warrington Road in Penketh just before 8.40pm on Wednesday when a man entered the shop brandishing a knife.
The offender, who concealed his identity with a balaclava, is described as around 5ft 10 inches tall, dressed in dark clothing and tracksuit bottoms.
Once inside the store he threatened a member of staff and stole cigarettes from the display.
Then, in an unusual turn of events, he discarded the cigarettes in a bin within the store before running from the scene empty-handed.
Nothing else was stolen and although badly shaken, the shopworker, a 70 year old local woman, was unharmed.
Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who may have any information that may assist the investigation, to contact DC Andy Evison at Warrington CID on 0845 458 0000.
