Armed robbery at pub

A MAN was arrested following a bungled armed robbery at a Warrington pub early today.
The raid was at the Winwick Quay pub on Winwick Road at about 12.40am when staff were in the process of closing for the night.
A number of men armed with knives forced their way in through the back door and demanded access to the safe.
But staff refused – and the men fled the scene empty handed.
Police were on the scene quickly and a 27-year-old local man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a robbery.
He is being questioned by detectives today.
Police are examining CCTV footage of the incident and are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area of the pub or the adjacent hotel at the time who may have any information that could assist the investigation.
Anyone who can help should to contact Warrington CID on 0845 458 0000.
