Dementia roadshow hits town

THE first-ever UK Dementia community roadshow visits Warrington today (Friday) and tomorrow to offer help to those with concerns about the condition.
The Alzheimer’s Society Roadshow will be offering help to those living with the condition or with concerns about family or friends.
Research shows that almost 61,000 people are predicted to be living with undiagnosed dementia in the North West by 2021.
Figures for Warrington say there is an estimated 2,155 people living with dementia, expected to rise to 3,038 by 2021. It is thought that 56 per cent are living without a diagnosis.
The vehicle will be at Winwick Road, Ear Warrington Wolves’ stadium and will be open between 10am and 4pm. People are invited to drop in with any questions or for information.
A study earlier this year suggests that people delay seeking help because of low awareness of symptoms, but experts say diagnosis is vital so that people can access drugs, support and advice to enable them to live well with the condition.
Helen Foster, North West area manager of the Alzheimer’s Society, said: “It’s really worrying that 57 per cent of people with dementia in the North West don’t have access to the help and support they need to live well with the condition.”
