Winter weather help-line launched

HEALTH chiefs in Warrington have joined forces with the borough council to launch a special winter weather help line for vulnerable residents.
Housebound residents can call it if they need help with shopping, collecting prescriptions or collecting pensions.
The number to call is 01925 442244.
It will only operate during severe weather and is aimed at residents with poor mobility who have no help or support, or anyone who has concerns about someone who may be stranded at home.
Cllr Roy Smith, the borough council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: “The key message to vulnerable people during severe weather is to stay at home and call the number if you need to.
“I believe this service will benefit many people who might otherwise venture out in dangerous conditions and risk injury.”
Dr Rita Robertson, director of public health for Warrington, said: “With temperatures dropping to well below zero in many places, we’re urging those most at risk to keep a close eye on the weather forecast and to try not to venture out when temperatures are freezing.”
The help line will only be available when the weather is considered dangerous but can be triggered any day of the week.
