WARRINGTON is “on the government’s radar” for funding for school improvements.
This is the view of council leader Ian Marks following a meeting with Lord Hill, the education minister, to discuss funding for schools in the town following the axing of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
Cllr Marks (pictured) met the education minister in London as part of a deputation which included the headteachers of William Beamont, Lysander, Penketh and Sir Thomas Boteler high schools.
The meeting was organised by Warrington South MP David Mowat and also attended by Warrington North MP Helen Jones.
Cllr Marks said: “We all put forward a forceful case for the importance and need for investment in these schools and also the special schools identified in the BSF proposal.
“Based on our experience at Culcheth and Birchwood, we stressed we had the skills and expertise to build schools cost effectively.
“We now await the outcome of the government’s review into capital funding
“I believe we achieved the objective of getting Warrington onto the government’s radar.”
