Oil leak closes police station

A MAJOR oil leak has forced the temporary closure of a police station on health and safety grounds.
Members of the public have been concerned that Stockton Heath Police Station was to be closed permanently, but Warrington South Police inspector Gary McIntyre said this was not the case.
He told Stockton Heath Parish Council the station was closed temporarily for maintenance and his officers were working out of Warrington and Lymm police stations.
Earlier PCSO Peter Crellin told the meeting that the fuel tank in the station had collapsed, and that 1,000 litres of oil had drained into the concrete. Fumes were strong and officers were only spending a “minimum time” on the premises.
Insp McIntyre said the old boiler was being taken out and a new gas central heating system installed.
The station would be open again as soon as possible.
