Restaurant boss writes thriller

WHILE serving food in a Lymm restaurant a would-be author had the chance to fine tune his ideas for a gripping detective novel.
Simon Gould’s book “Playing the Game,” is a thriller set in Los Angeles.
In it serial killer The Chemist sets Detective Patton of the LAPD a series of challenges to save a life.
In each game he kidnaps a girl, poisons her and sends the antidote to police. Then the “game” starts as they have just 24 hours to find her to save her life.
Warrington-born Simon, 34, is a former pupil of Penketh High School and studied computer systems with business at Bangor University.
He is manager of the Poplars 2000 McDonald’s in charge of 110 staff, and admits that sometimes while working he fine-tuned his novel idea.
Simon decided on the location for his story through being a big fan of US crime thriller writer James Patterson.
“I thought the book would be a bit more commercial if it was set in LA,” he said.
“It was a case of thinking what would make an interesting plot and then just brainstorming ideas. Sometimes ideas would turnaround as I was going about my job.”
He started writing in late 2008 and the final draft was ready early this year. The book, priced £9.99, is available from www.amazon.co.uk and www.waterstones.com
