WARRINGTON’S two MPs will be asked to give their support in Parliament for a new high speed rail link to the North West – if the borough council agrees next week.
A motion is to be put to the November 1 meeting of the borough council urging members to welcome an announcement by the Coalition Government for a new high speed rail route to the North West, branching out from a link north of Birmingham.
The motion will be put to the council by Coun Alan Litton, executive member for environment and transport and seconded by Coun Mike Biggin, executive member for climate change and public protection.
It calls on the council to recognise the announcement as “a clear demonstration of our government’s commitment to creating jobs and prosperity by investing in capital infrastructure to ensure a fair deal for the North.
Councillors are also urged to welcome the economic benefits to Warrington from having such a link.”
The motion asks that a letter be sent signed by the leaders of the Liberal Democrat, Conservative and Labour groups on the council asking the MPs – Helen Jones for Warrington North and David Mowat for Warrington South – for their support in Parliament.
