Halloween hooligans warning

POLICE in Warrington are warning that troublemakers will not be tolerated over Halloween and Bonfire Night.
Officers say that incidents of anti-social behaviour usually increase during celebrations of the two events.
Chief Inspector Jon Ward said: “We are warning everyone to be on their best behaviour in Warrington on Halloween and Bonfire Night.
“We know that the majority of people enjoy this time of year sensibly and we are not out to spoil their fun but, unfortunately, there is a minority of people who use the occasion as an excuse to commit crime and act anti-socially.”
He said police will take steps to stop people who think they can use this time of year as an excuse to break the law or frighten or harass others.
“The message from police is clear – intimidation or harassment of any kind against anyone will not be tolerated – and positive action will be taken against those who break the law and cause a nuisance.”
Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in hotspot areas at key times to deter any potential troublemakers.
They will deal with incidents of crime and disorder and confiscate alcohol from underage drinkers. PCSOs will visit elderly and vulnerable residents to offer reassurance and address any concerns.
Parents are also being urged to ensure they know where their children are and what they are doing during the two celebrations, and to escort younger children on trick or treat tours.
Leaflets are being distributed which residents can display in their window, to show whether trick or treaters are welcome. Police said youngsters should respect these messages.
One side says “Trick or treaters welcome” and the other “No trick or treaters please.” Leaflets are also available at police stations and can be downloaded from the Cheshire Police website at www.cheshire.police.uk
Police are working with partners over the period including Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Warrington Borough Council. Officers are also visiting schools and businesses to get their message across.
Shopkeepers are again being urged not to sell large quantities of flour and eggs to young people, which may be used in tricks. Police are visiting licensed premises to ensure rules governing the sale of fireworks and alcohol are not breached.
