Warning over jewellery scam

TOWN Hall watchdogs at Warrington have issued a warning about a jewellery scam.
A number of residents have reported being approached by people offering to sell jewellery, generally rings and necklaces, described as 18 carat gold.
The jewellery carries a hallmark and, occasionally, displays a registered trademark.
But the rings are not 18 carat gold and are usually made of brass.
In most cases, by the time the consumer discovers they have been ripped off, they have no way of getting their money back.
Coun Mike Biggin, (pictured) the council’s executive member for climate change and public protection, said: “Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Please be very wary of anyone who approaches you and tries to sell jewellery and report any suspicions you may have to police.”
Members of the public are being advised to refuse to buy the jewellery and contact the police on 0845 4580000.
