Glossy newsletter a waste of money

PLANS to upgrade a parish council newsletter onto glossy paper were criticised as a waste of public money.
Stockton Heath Parish Council was considering plans to improve its newsletter in a bid to reach more people.
Members had been impressed by the high-quality newsletter produced by Stretton Parish Council.
But Coun Sonia Boggan said: “Is it necessary to go to all this expense?
“This is just a case of ‘keeping up with the Jones.’ We are just telling people what is going on – all this expense in the current economic climate is wasting money.”
Coun Wendy Emsley said: “I think this would upgrade Stockton Heath. In a way it is advertising Stockton Heath and the work that we do.”
Members were told 2,800 copies were produced of each issue of the newsletter and agreed to increase the budget for next year from £450 to £900 to enable a glossy publication with pictures to be produced.”

  1. How many more people do they expect to reach by having a glossy leaflet and how can it ‘upgrade’ or ‘advertise’ Stockton Heath when it’s only distributed to stockton heath residents anyway? Anyway not knocking the idea as personally I do prefer reading colour leaflets and I suppose it may make the parish council appear to be slightly more professional in their work too 🙂 🙂 🙂

  2. Stop sendign this stuff out END OF. It just goes straight into the blue bin. Put thenm all on the web. if we want it we will find it either through our own web access or library access.
