College tutors' mercy mission

TWO college tutors from Warrington are to travel to Chisinau in Moldova to visit an orphanage and work with both staff and children.
The purpose of the visit is to arrange a lasting partnership which will then allow students studying Society Health and Development the opportunity to visit next summer in order to aid their studies.
Bev Devlin and Rachel Walsh from Priestley College’s Health and Education Department will visit the area and see at first hand the great work being carried out by volunteers who provide much needed love, care and attention for youngsters in the 0-5 age range.
The large rehabilitation centre they will visit cares for 200 children, some of who are mildly or severely disabled.
Bev said: “During our stay we very much plan to help all we can and lay a foundation which will then allow our own students to benefit from a trip of their own, where they will be able to gain a great deal of satisfaction from helping underprivileged and often sick children.
“We will spend our time caring for the orphaned children, playing with them and generally giving them the love and attention they so badly need. Children are always the most vulnerable members of society and one of the goals of this trip is to give them a sense of self worth and to provide kind and compassionate human contact that they otherwise would not have.”
Curriculum manager Bev, who has worked with students in many worldwide orphanages in the past added: “The trip is ideally suited to students who want to make a difference to the lives of those less fortunate than themselves. We recognise it will be challenging, hence the pre-visit – yet incredibly rewarding and unforgettable.”
