Young artists in for a surprise

YOUNGSTERS from a Warrington school will have a surprise when they visit an exhibition of their work – as it will be the first time they have seen it in its completed form.
The 360 children from Oughtrington Primary School, Lymm, have created their own art work on ceramic plates.
Since then the works have been glazed and fired in a kiln, and only when they visit the exhibition with their parents will they see the finished project.
The exhibition of work will take place at the school on October 12 and 13, from 3.30pm to 7pm in the main hall.
The school worked together with local pottery café Coffee au Clay in Stockton Heath. In just three weeks youngsters completed the drawing, painting and firing of each plate.
Sally O’Hara, school art co-ordinator, said: “I’m really impressed with how incredibly disciplined, creative and organised the teachers and children have been, to achieve these fantastic results within such strict deadlines.”
She said the team at Coffee au Clay were very helpful and even bought an extra kiln to help cope with the extra demand.
Every child in the school has designed and created a personalised clay plate. Each year group has worked to different themes linked to the school’s creative curriculum – including hand prints, dotty dots, fireworks, space theme, flowers, pirates and individual coats-of-arms.
The exhibition will show each child’s work and the progression of skills and creativity throughout the school. After the exhibition the pupils will have the chance to buy their work to display at home.
Head teacher Gill Marsland said: “I am delighted by the imagination shown by the pupils, who can all feel justifiably proud.”
