Warning over fake vodka

TRADING Standards chiefs have issued a warning about bottles of counterfeit vodka which could cause serious health risks including blindness.
The fake Imperial Vodka contains methanol and residents are urged to report finding any such bottles to Trading Standards officers.
Each counterfeit bottle has a code reading which looks like 102234 04/08/02 as well as QI: 1445c embossed around the bottom of the bottle.
A spokeswoman said: “These fake bottles are extremely dangerous and have been found in locations nationally as far apart as London, Wales and Northumberland.
“I would ask people to be on the alert and not to buy – and certainly not to drink – this counterfeit vodka.
“If opened the vodka has a chemical smell like nail varnish and if anyone sees Imperial Vodka on sale anywhere other than a SPAR store, they should contact Trading Standards.
“There are no such problems with authentic bottles of Imperial Vodka which are sold in SPAR’s supermarket chain stores.”
Anyone finding the fake vodka should ring Trading Standards on 08454 040506.
