POLICE have today named the man found murdered at Warrington – and revealed that he died of stab wounds.
He was Roy Waterfield, aged 52 – and it is believed he lived at the house in Leicester Street, Bewsey, where his body was found on Wednesday evening.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is still being questioned by detectives. But he has not been charged.
Detectives investigating the killing sealed off two separate parts of the Bewsey and Whitecross area of the town.
One was around the house in Leicester Street, where Mr Waterfield’s body was found.
The other was an entry at the rear of shops in Lovely Lane, almost opposite the Mad Hatter public house, where, according to locals, the man suffered stab wounds during an incident.
Both areas are believed to have been subjected to forensic examination.
A post mortem examination has been carried out and the facts reported to Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg.
Police have revealed little about the incident.
But they say they were called to the Lovely Lane area around 8.20pm on Wednesday evening and spoke to a man suffering from minor injuries.
They later went to the house in Leicester Street where the body was discovered.
Subsequently the 39-year-old was arrested.
Police are still appealing for help from the public
They would like to speak to anyone who saw an “agitated” man in Lovely Lane between 8pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday evening.
