Shoppers shocked by accident victims

YOUNG models with “wounded faces” and “blood-soaked” t-shirts walked around Warrington town centre in a bid to show the horrific consequences of a road traffic accident.
Shoppers were faced with the frightening wake-up call as the models, wearing special effects make-up, walked around the Bridge Street area as part of an on-going campaign to reduce young driver deaths in Cheshire.
It was organised by the Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership (CSRP) who took the models along with a Lamborghini Gallardo Spider, to Warrington, to promote its rewards-based positive young driver website www.r8urm8.com
Shoppers were invited to have their photo taken with the Lamborghini and their pictures are on the website’s gallery. They can then be “rated “as a driver by their friends, and rewarded for safe driving with prizes such as i-pods and £1,000 towards their vehicle insurance.
CSRP partnership manager Lee Murphy said: “We wanted to try a fresh approach to engaging young drivers in Cheshire, and Warrington town centre provided the perfect backdrop for us to talk face-to-face with this audience.
“We brought a unique, attention grabbing vehicle down to the town to attract visitors over to our stand and then the models chatted with the crowds about the young driving culture in Cheshire.”
He said the aim was to attract young people to the “Rate Your Mate” website (detailed above) which is an interactive driving forum.
Lee said: “The young driver campaign for this year is all about communicating with young drivers in Cheshire on their level. By using new media tools such as the internet and appearing at town centres such as Warrington, we are able to engage with these drivers in an environment in which they are comfortable, and therefore more likely to take safer driving messages on board.”
