A NEW bus service is being launched in Warrington with around 2,000 people set to benefit from the scheme free of charge.
Residents in the Chapelford Urban Village area are being offered free 12-month passes for the service, which starts today (Monday)..
Prospective residents of the urban village will also be offered the passes, which equate to a saving of around £430.
Number 17 buses will pass from the bus interchange in the town centre right through the Chapleford Urban Village area, terminating at the Westbrook Centre.
Buses will run from 7.05am from the bus interchange and 7.20am from on the corner of Cromwell Avenue and Westbrook Crescent.
The service will run every 30 minutes, with the last bus of the day leaving the interchange at 6.30pm and the Westbrook Centre at 6.50pm.
It will be in operation from Mondays to Saturdays and is being run in conjunction with Warrington Borough Council, Warrington Borough Transport and David Wilson Homes.
Borough Transport managing director John Bannister, said: “The Chapelford Connector will mean modern, state of the art travel which will offer the highest level of convenience for both the residents of Chapelford Urban Village and for the town as a whole.
“What’s more, by taking advantage of the bus service, residents will not only be able to save themselves the cost of using their car but they will also be able to do their bit for the environment by reducing the number of vehicles on the road and consequently their carbon footprint.”
More than 760 homes already occupied at Chapelford Urban Village will be receiving a pack of information with details on how to claim their complimentary bus pass, the route plan and the timetable.
Planning director for David Wilson Homes, Andrew Taylor, added: “All parties involved in making this fantastic scheme possible are very excited about the forthcoming launch.
“The Chapelford Connector will benefit all residents, from those needing to travel into Warrington town centre for work, to parents visiting the Westbrook Centre to do their weekly shop, and even children, providing a cheap and safe way for the pupils of local schools including St Gregory’s High School and St Phillips Primary School to travel to and from the classroom.”

  1. Not sure if we have missed out or not, but we have lived in Arizona Cresc on Chapelford for the last 4 years and have never received anything offering a free bus pass. It has only come to my attention recently, as friends have said that they have one, Please can you advise if there is anything that we can do about this and whether we would be able to obtain the passes, as we would prefer to support the local bus service and benefit the environment, rather than resorting to using the car all the time.
