Residents want war on speeders

RESIDENTS in Warrington are calling on police to target illegally parked cars and speeding vehicles during the coming months.
At the latest Great Sankey North Community Action Meeting, residents asked police to concentrate on cars parked illegally by shops on Station Road.
There were also calls to for a pedestrian-controlled crossing to be installed on Park Road, near the junction with Barrow Hall Lane, because of the sheer volume of traffic and speeding vehicles using the road.
Chairman of the meeting, Coun Roy Smith, said the issue of the pedestrian crossing would have to be taken to the borough council.
Parish councillor Chris Lee reported that the newly introduced Neighbourhood Speedwatch Scheme had clocked cars travelling at speeds up to 60mph in 30mph zones.
Other issues raised at the meeting involved anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking around the Tim Parry Memorial Centre.
PCSO Steve Grady told the meeting that Operation Compute, which tackles anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking issues in various areas, is about to be launched.
The next Great Sankey North CAM will take place on September 24 at the Tim Parry Memorial Centre on Cromdale Way.
