Bowlers put to the sword!

WARRINGTON suffered a severe mauling at the hands of Poynton in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League division one.
The home side batted first and, on a good batting wicket, their batsmen put Warrington’s bowlers to the sword.
Only two wickets fell and the Stockport side finished on 248-7 in 48 overs.
Warrington lost opener Malcolm Agar for a duck and things didn’t get much better as the Poynton attack swpt all before them. Only C Kirby, with 40, offered much resistance and Warrington were finally dismissed for a paltry 99.
Grappenhall travelled to Sale in division two, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a wicket which was always going to to favour the bowlers.
Left-arm paceman Andy Tetlow was soon among the wickets, reducing the home side to 26-3.
Wickets continued to fall and Tetlow returned for a second spell to clean up the tail and finish with career best figures of 6-32. Sale ended up all out for 108.
Runs were always going to be hard to score and after 32 overs the match was finely balanced with Grappenhall stuttering at 55 for 5 with only Ian Wright, 26, managing double figures.
Chris France then joined skipper Steve Titchard and as in the previous week saw Grappenhall home with fine 22 not out, assisted by Titchard’s 26 not out. The win gave them 20 points and could move Grappenhall into third place at the half way stage of the season.
Grappenhall 2nd hosted Timperley at Broad Lane and decided to bat first and reached 191-5 – despite a bizarre six run-outs.
Veteran Nick Sharp hit an impressive 44 and Dean Langhorne an aggressive 43.
The pace of Sam Guest was too much for the Timperley opener who was back in the pavilion after four balls and skipper Andy Hards removed the other opener. At 7-2 Timperley were struggling.
They fought back to 77-3 but then Hards brought himself back on with a tremendous spell of 6-8 to demolish Timperley and finish with match figures of 7-16. The result left Grappenhall within touching distance of second promotion spot.
Grappenhall Over 40s won their fourth successive match when they defeated Barnton.
On losing the toss Grappenhall were asked to field first with Roylance and Green taking the new ball. Good steady bowling was backed up by some fielding and as a result Barnton were restricted to 118 from their 20 overs.
Nick Sharp was pick of the bowlers with 2-15 from four overs, the other wickets coming from Guest and Tetlow.
In reply Paul Radage raced to 30 in 22 balls only for Mervyn Roberts to go one better for 31 in 21 balls for the second successive match. Mark Critchley, 26no and Paul Green, 11, saw the side home with two overs to spare.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Stretton inflicted a heavy defeat on Old Parkonians.
Batting first they declared on 150-8 and then tumbled out the home side for a paltry 61, Paul Critchley taking 5-24 and Ben Clissold 5-31.
Lymm Oughtrington Park dismissed Prestbury for a modest 114 and lost seven wickets reaching their target on a day dominated by the bowlers.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton continued to find life tough in division one.
They went down by eight wickets at Hartford after being dismissed for 137.
The home side raced to 128-2 with James Hodgkinson hitting an unbeaten 92.
In division two, the “derby” game between Glazebury and Rylands was a low-scoring affair with the home side going down by six wickets.
Glazebury were tumbled out for 58, Sean Malone taking 5-14 and Rylands then lost four wickets reaching their target.
In division three, Glazebury 2nd were defeated by eight wickets at Sandbach.
Dismissed for 104 – something of a recovery after at one stage being 49-7 – Glazebury could only dismiss two of the home side’s batsmen.
Rylands 2nd went down against Wilmslow Wayfarers.
Appleton 2nd draw with Hartford at Lyons Lane. Batting first, Appleton reached 190-9, with Brian Woods hitting 82. The visitors closed on 149-5.
In division four, Appleton 3rd defeated Frodsham 2nd by 10 runs after batting first and hitting 135.

Women’s Cricket

Appleton recorded their first league victory of the season with a five wicket win over Brooklands.
In a match reduced to 29 overs each, Brooklands posted 123-8, with Sarah Sutcliffe scoring 43 and Becky Norman 27.
Jess Lewis took 4-19 for Appleton, before 68 not out in reply from Emma Barlow saw her side home with four overs remaining.
