Weather hits cricket for six

THE weather wiped out much of the local cricket programme, with many matches abandoned without a ball being bowled and others being shortened by interruptions for rain.
But some matches were played and in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League, Grappenhall got the better of a drawn game with Mobberley.
Skipper Steve Titchard elected to bat after winning the toss but Grappers got off to a shaky start, losing three wickets for 30 runs.
Will Sharp helped steady the ship with a sparkling 42 but the highlight of the innings was a majestic 76 not out from Ian Barnes, supported by Alan Brady, 32 and Chris France, 38 not out.
This enabled Grappenhall to declare after 43 overs with 209 on the board.
Mobberley were took in trouble as Aussie Cameron Park claimed another five wicket haul – this time at a cost of just 36 runs from 17 overs.
Mobberley battled hard to secure as many batting points as possible, however fell 30 runs short with eight wickets down, leaving Grappenhall with a 16 point draw.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Rylands suffered a minor setback in their challenge for the division two title when they were held to a draw by Heaton Mersey Village.
As a result they slipped to second place, behind Langley.
Rylands matted first and reached 191-5, thanks largely to a fine, unbeaten 89 from Ian Maron and 55 from Eddie Platt.
Heaton Mersey Village did not find runs easy to get against the bowling of Sean Malone, 3-18 and Andy Harrison, 3-55 and seldom seemed likely to reach their target. But at the close they were 159-8.
Glazebury were held to a draw at Styal where the home side scored a formidable 202-9, Stewart Caller bowling well for his 3-54.
The Glazebury batting line-up performed less well than usual, with Sam Stanier top scoring with an unbeaten 42. At the close they were hanging on at 153-8.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park coasted to a nine-wicket win at Bowdon Vale.
The home side batted first and could only muster a modest 143-9. Lymm finished on 144-1.

Chester won by eight wickets with five overs in hand.
