Grappers hammer high-fliers

GRAPPENHALL struck good form to hammer high-flying Tattenhall by 91 runs in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League.
The victory put Grappers in touch with the league leaders for the first time this season.
In-form Cameron Park hit 77, Will Sharp 48 and skipper Steve Titchard 38 as Grappenhall reached 257-6 declared.
Tattenhall started well in reply but a good spell from Tetlow, 5-34 had them in trouble and they eventually fell away to 166. Park took 3-33.
But Grappenhall were out of luck when they took on Didsbury in the third round of the Cheshire Cup. Didsbury hammered 230-6 and Grappenhall could only muster 188, despite a useful 65 from A Brady.
Grappenhall 2nd raced to an eight wicket victory over Birkenhead Park, who batted first and reached 200-8.
S Barnes, 84 not out and S Hartley, 56 not out took Grappenhall to 201-2.
Grappenhall 3rd were beaten heavily by Bramhall, who amassed 239-7 and then reduced Grappers to 36-5. But a determined fight back led by Tom Roberts, 46 and Paul Tyerman, 28 enabled Grappenhall to reach the comparatively respectable total of 152.
Grappenhall’s Over 40s side chalked up their third win in a row when they dismissed Christleton for 111 and reached victory with nine balls to spare.
Warrington hung on for a draw against Christleton after their bowlers were put to the sword.
Christleton declared on 239-1 and Warrington’s last pair were at the wicket with only 167 on the board at the close.
Warrington 2nd fared rather better in their drawn game with the Christleton second string. Warrington batted first and totalled 241-7. Christleton were on 181-7 when the overs ran out.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Rylands had to settle for a draw at Saughall.
Batting first, they hit a formidable 213, J Knowles 71. But the home side hung on at 158-8, despite good bowling from P Knowles, 4-8 and S Malone, 3-62.
Appleton could only draw against Homes Chapel who batted first and posted a massive 251-3. Skipper Dave Hurst hit 37 not out and Andrew Tyrer 29 as Appleton replied with 155-6.
Appleton 2nd hit 141-4 to earn a six wicket win over Eastham and Bromborough, who were dismissed for 140, Ryan Swart taking 4-34 and James Darbyshire 3-51. Brian Woods was Appleton’s leading scorer with 65 not out.
Appleton 3rd went down by four wickets against Aston. Thomas Shard top scored with 30 as Appleton hit 127. Aston reached their target for the loss of six wickets.
Glazebury suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Trinity who amassed 268-5. David Acton was the most effective bowler, with 3-53 and then top scored with 22 as Glazebury were bowled out for 120.
Glazebury 2nd enjoyed a 74-run victory over Offerton after hitting 202, Wayne Hargreaves scoring 56 and Callum Morgan 54. Offerton were dismissed for 128, Seane Caine taking 5-32 and Paul Charlton 4-38.
