WARRINGTON Wolves got back to winning ways with a 24-40 victory at Harlequins giving acting Head Coach Jimmy Lowes a much needed victory for his first game in charge.
The Wolves, going into their first game since the end of the Paul Cullen era, got off to a flying start when young winger Chris Riley went flying in from 40 metres after good work by hooker Jon Clarke.
Louis Anderson added a second on 26 minutes and with Chris Hicks on target with both the Wolves led 0-12.
But back came the Quins with two tries to level the scores 12-12 at the break.
After Lowes first half time team talk Warrington again came flying out the blocks and scored three tries in 18 minutes from Martin Gleeson, Michael Monghan and Matt King to open up a 12-36 lead.
But again they let Quins back into the game with tries from Haggerty and Sheriff to set up a nervy final quarter, although it was Warrington who had the last say when Riley went in for his second in the final minute.
Hicks, who finished the day with six goals from seven attempts, failed with the touchline coversion as the final hooter sounded on a vital victory for Warrington which saw them leap frog Wakefield back into the top six.
