Grappers held to a draw

GRAPPENHALL got the better of a drawn game at Winnington Park in the Right Move Abroad Cheshire County League.
Batting first after losing the toss, they reached 235-5 with Will Sharp hitting 56, Steve Titchard 60 not out and wicket-keeper Liam Parkinson hammering 65.
The home side were soon struggling at 7-2 but then recovered to 95-3. A mini-collapse followed but after the seventh wicket fell the Grappenhall bowlers lost the initiative and Winnington Park played out the draw on 159-7. C Park took 3-33.
Grappenhall 2nd took on local rivals Warrington at Broad Lane and asked them to bat first. The visitors reached a useful 220-6 with Gwatkin top scoring with 74 and useful contributions from Beardon, 48 and Balmer, 47. Matt Titchard took 4-51.
Grappenhall started well with 15-year-old Adam Roylance hitting 47 and Andy Wright 49. But when Warrington introduced Balmer and James Coneeny to the attack the game changed and Grappenhall fell away to 185 all out. Coneeny finished with 5-20.
Grappenhall 3rd entertained Timperley and were put in on a good pitch. After losing an early wicket, Mark Tyerman and Jack Critchley made steady progress and each made 50. The middle order added valuable runs with a spirited knock of 29 not out from Bradley Angel and enabled Grappenhall to finish on 195-6.
Timperley were in trouble at 87-7. The tail batted defiantly and but were only able to push the score to 138 with two overs remaining, giving Grappenhall victory by 57 runs. A. Higham took 3-22.
Warrington were denied victory after outplaying Cheadle at Walton Lea.
Batting first, Warrington hit a formidable 235-7 declared. James Hughes hit a fine 109 and Malcolm Agar 72.
The visitors were never in the hunt, thanks to some fine bowling from Steve Heydon, 5-28 but managed to hold on for the draw at 185-9.
Grappenhall Over 40s defeated their counterparts from Warrington by 25 runs in a “friendly” game.
Grappenhall hit 150-1, with Critchley, Green, Baxter and Talbot all retiring on 30. Warrington replied with 125-4, with Bate and Batey both retiring on 30 and Rothwell hitting a hard fought 19.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Rylands maintained their winning ways with a 48-run victory at home over Norbury.
Batting first they scored 224-2 with E Platt making 102 not out. After tea, Norbury were dismissed for 176 with Sean Malone taking 6-55.
Glazebury went down to Haslington at Hurst Lane despite settingt a formidable target by hitting 201-3, Gary Dunlop 77 and Gareth Banks 56 not out. Haslington raced to victory with seven wickets to spare.
Glazebury 2nd enjoyed a four wicket win at Kerridge. The home side knocked up 224-6 despite good bowling by Paul Charlton, 3-27. Glazebury replied with 225-6 with Wayne Hargreaves making 67, skipper Andy Durrington 31 and Simon Green 59.
Appleton crushed Frodsham after batting first and totalling 173-7. Lee Stoll top-scored with 59 and Chris Grumley hit 45.
Frodsham had no answer to the bowling of Ed Sygrove, who took 4-4 in nine overs and Peter Worrall, 2-8.
Appleton 2nd triumphed by two wickets at Lyons Lane after dismissing visiting Ellesmere Port for 122. Ryan Swart took 5-19. Appleton were 124-8 at the close.
Appleton 3rd went down by eight wickets at the hands of Haslington. Batting first they were dismissed for 127, Andrew Thorley 22 and Kevan Lomas 19. Haslington knocked off the runs at 129-2.
Six ducks trailed back to the pavilion in Appleton 4th’s game at Lyons Lane – but they still managed to win.
Visitors Mossley hit 146, Aamar Rashin taking 5-52 and Ben Swannell 4-35.
Four Appleton batsmen were back in the pavilion without troubling the scorer before Ali Sharif, 59 and Pete Ryan, 63 not out, came together. Two more ducks followed Sharif’s dismissal
but Appleton managed to reach 150-7
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park gained a two wicket win over
Wilmslow at OUghtrington Lane.
The visitors were dismissed for 120 and Lymm replied with 121-8.
Stretton fell just short in a run chase to try and overhaul Wistaston’s 177-8. They finished on 176-6, Mullins 78.

Women’s Cricket

Chester Boughton Hall Deemons needed less than half the available overs to reach their victory target with eight wickets in hand against Appleton Tigers in the first quarter final of the Lovelane Cheshire Women’s Cup.
Despite Emma Barlow and Kim Challis reaching 20 and retiring, Appleton totaled only 56 in 20 overs, with Vicky Latham taking 2-7 in four overs. Latham then bagged the top score of 16 in the successful Deemons run chase.
