Wolves savage toothless Tigers!

WARRINGTON Wolves ripped Castleford Tigers to shreds with an outstanding 62-0 victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium to ensure they stayed top of the Super League table.
The Wolves showed no mercy against the early season Tigers who looked a shadow of the team which sat top of the table only a few weeks ago.The Tiger’s early season promise is a fading memory and after their fourth straight defeat.
Wolves Coach Tony Smith gave teenage half-back Gareth O’Brien another start and was rewarded after just four minutes when he dummied his way over. Brett Hodgson was wide with his first conversion attempt.
The hapless visitors paid dearly for another-knock-on three minutes later, this time from ex Wolf Nick Fozzard, with Lee Briers’ opening up the defence to score. Hodsgon was on target this time to make it 10-0.
Castleford survived another 10 minutes, although their only attack of note was ended by a wild Richie Mathers pass into touch before clever link play from Hodgson put Matt King over in the corner.
On 24 minutes King salvaged an O’Brien bomb by flicking it inside and the teenager made amends by collecting the loose ball and sliding in a kick which Hodgson hacked on before touching down.
Briers grabbed his second try four minutes before half-time when his kick rebounded perfectly into his arms off a post.
The one-way traffic continued after the break as Simon Grix scored a quickfire double before Briers’ perfect kick into the in-goal area was pounced on by Micky Higham.
Man of the match King grabbed his second try with a superb finish in the corner under pressure from three defenders, with the assistance of the video referee, before David Solomona finished off a flowing move with the 10th try.
The final try came against a tiring Castleford defence with Chris Bridge and Joel Monaghan exchanging passes before the Australian winger raced in unopposed.
The Tigers had their best chance to score in the closing seconds but the Wolves were able to kick the ball out of play and hold on to a clean sheet for the second consecutive week.

Pictures show Brett Hodgson in full flight, man-of-the-match Matt King sharing a joke with former team mate Richie Mathers and members of the Mercian Regiment and their mascot leading out the Wolves who wore a special “army” kit to show their support for the Armed Services.
