DESPITE a valiant effort battling through the elements to get to Hull FC, Warrington Wolves lost out 21-12 on a bitterly cold Humberside night as both sides finished with 12 men following two red cards.

After travelling by train due to the weather chaos on the M62, the Wolves were 10-0 down at the break and were dealt a further blow when half back Dec Patton saw red after a high tackle on Faraimo and were 18-0 down after 54 minutes before embarking on an unlikely comeback.

Quick fire tries from Jack Hughes on 57 minutes and Ryan Atkins on the hour, both converted by Stefan Ratchford, gave the Wolves some hope at 18-12.

But they ran out of steam and it was the home side who extended their lead to 20-12 with a penalty from Sneyd after Tom Lineham’s high tackle on Shaul.

Despite the departiure of Liam Watts for a head butt on Dom Crosby levelling up the numbers on the field, the hosts made sure of victory as Sneyd slotted over a drop-goal in the final minutes to complete the scoring.

Hull opened the scoring after 19 minutes after an incorrect play the ball by Toby King allowed Sneyd to kick a penalty.

Then on 25 minutes Bureta Faraimo went over in the corner. and Sneyd added the difficult conversion to make it 8-0 with Sneyd adding another penalty just before the break to make it 10-0.

Another Sneyd penalty on 49 minutes followed by a try for Carlos Tuimavave on 54 minutes with Sneyd adding the extras to make it 18-0 the hosts loked home and dry, until Warrington staged a spirited fight back.

After the match Head Coach Steve Price said: “The boys worked hard for each other tonight. A low completion and a high penalty rate cost us but credit to the players for getting themselves back into the arm wrestle.
