Cooper knows Widnes will be a tough test

Warrington prop Mike Cooper is expecting a tough time against Widnes in the local derby on Friday night.

After successive defeats to start the Super League season, the Wolves will be desperate to get off the mark and secure local bragging rights.

They have won their last nine competitive outings against the Vikings, though did lose the pre-season friendly over the festive period.
Cooper said: “These are the games you want to be playing in.

“I’m really excited we get to play Widnes on Friday night and hopefully it’ll be a big crowd there – it always adds a bit of extra spice in derby matches so it’s a good opportunity for us to get the result.

“We’ve watched plenty of video on Widnes and I know how well they’re doing and how well Denis has got them playing as a team and working hard for each other.

“They look like they’re playing with a smile on their faces and a happy team is a difficult team to beat so it’s going to be a tough ask for us.”

The game is one of only two in Super League this weekend and is a result of both sides finishing in the bottom four last season – which means they enter the Challenge Cup a round earlier than the top eight Super League clubs.
