Warrington Wolves keep league title hopes alive

WARRINGTON Wolves kept their league title hopes alive as they repeated their Challenge Cup semi-final success over Wakefield with a comfortable 10-38 victory in the Super 8s.

Wakefield, who won the league encounter earlier in the season, opened the scoring on four minutes through Jonny Molloy, but the Wolves responded with three tries by the break through Ben Currie, Chris Hill and Ryan Atkins.

Winger Matty Russell then scored twice after the break, while Daryl Clark and Joe Westerman also crossed for the Wolves.

Kurt Gidley kicked five of his seven goal attempts as Warrington responded to last week’s narrow home defeat by St Helens to go second in the Super League table, just one point behind Hull, who they face in the Challenge Cup final later this month.

Judah Mazive pulled a try back after the break for Trinity but in the end it was a routine win for the Wolves.
