Warrington heading for Brexit?

WITH the EU referendum appearing to be on a knife edge according to a poll of polls nationally – the picture looks to be more one sided in Warrington.

While a poll of polls nationally shows Remain on 51 per cent and  Leave on 49, a poll on the warrington-worldwide twitter account shows a massive 77 per cent voting for Leave compared to just 23 per cent for Remain.

It was the third twitter poll carried out by warrington-worldwide in the lead up to the referendum, with two earlier ones heavily in favour of Remain.

Editor Gary Skentelbery said: “I was shocked by the change in voting patterns and expected it to be a lot closer like the national picture.

“It is a relatively small percentage of the local population but still significant enough to gauge local opinion with the poll reaching nearly 4,500 people.

“More than 650 of those actually voted, so there could still be a lot of undecided voters out there, or indeed a lot of people who are so unsure of how to vote, they are not going to vote.

“It has split opinion politically and within our own offices.

“I just hope people go out and vote as this is a probably a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a say on this issue.

“Having weighed up various opinions I will be voting to Remain, not for my benefit, but for the benefit of my children and the younger generation who will have to live with the decision. The EU is far from perfect but I think it is better to be part of it and influence it from within, rather than being isolated.

“At the end of the day we are all from the same DNA made up from various ancestors across Europe and the world – so we should all try and work together and make Europe and the world a better place.

*warrington-worldwide will be covering the referendum on Thursday night/Friday morning, with the local results expected around 4.30am.
