Warrington lose to Super League’s basement boys

WARRINGTON Wolves fell to a third defeat in four games as they were beaten 11-0 by basement boys Huddersfield.

The Giants had won just one of their previous 10 games in Super League, but the Wolves couldn’t even get on the scoresheet in the rain at the John Smith’s Stadium.

It took 35 minutes for the first score of the game, Jake Connor’s offload putting Aaron Murphy over on the left wing.

Prior to that, the Giants had forced six drop-outs without really looking like scoring, while the Wolves attack seemed toothless without inspirational scrum-half Chris Sandow.

Desperate to end their poor run of form, the Giants nudged further ahead with a penalty before Danny Brough’s drop goal made it a two score game with 15 minutes remaining.

Leroy Cudjoe made sure late on, sliding over on the right to complete the victory.

Warrington’s place at the top of the league looks increasingly vulnerable following a second successive defeat.

They were beaten 25-22 by St Helens last week, and lost two games before that at Hull FC.

After the game Wolves Head of Coaching Tony Smith: “It’s a concern. We’re not happy and we’ are going to change our training routine. We’re going to do things differently.

“I thought our defence was terrific but we couldn’t match Danny Brough’s kicking game.

“He kicked us to death twice last year and he was at it again.”
