Council to experiment with twice monthly meetings

FRODSHAM Town Council is to meet twice monthly from January in an attempt to reduce the length of its meetings which currently seldom finish before 10pm.
The experiment will continue until May – the end of the council year – when a review will be carried out to determine whether or not to return to monthly meetings.
Cllr Mike Pusey put forward  the idea at the November meeting of the council.
He suggested the council should try twice monthly meetings from January until the end of the financial year, after which the situation could be reviewed.
A number of councillors expressed doubts – pointing out that committee meetings were sometimes poorly attended and occasionally could not be held because insufficient members turned up.
Cllr Mallie Poulton said if the council allow its committees to do their job properly, full council meetings would not last as long.  Too many committee decisions were being needlessly referred to full council. If this were not the case, there would be no need for two council meetings a month.
Chairman Cllr Mark Warren (pictured) said he had full confidence in committee decisions.
After considerable debate, the matter was put to the vote and all members present supported the move except for Cllr Liam Jones, who abstained.
