THE volunteer-run North Cheshire Rail Users Group who represent the North Cheshire Line between Warrington Bank Quay and Chester, has been recognised at the Cheshire Best Kept Stations Awards Evening for their campaigning to restore passenger services over the Halton Curve.
Awards are usually given to individual stations and this is the first time an award has been given for the opening of a line to regular passenger traffic.
The group received the John Hobbs Award to celebrate the restoration of regular passenger services over the Halton Curve after 30 years of campaigning
Fourteen other railway station won awards at the event with Rose Hill railway station in Marple named Cheshire’s Best Kept Station 2019.
The Awards were presented before 170 guests at The Grange Theatre, Hartford, Northwich by Kulvinder Bassi, , community rail team leader from the Department of Transport.
The event was attended by David Briggs, Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire and 17 mayors from boroughs, town and parishes across Cheshire including the Mayor of Halton and the Mayor of Frodsham.
Mr Briggs concluded the evening by praising the station volunteers across Cheshire who dedicate considerable time to the county and were an inspiration to all.
Other stations to win awards included Warrington Bank Quay, Padgate and Frodsham.
