£1.15 million highways scheme completed on time

A £1.15 million highways scheme at Burtonwood, Warrington has been completed on time and on budget.
The Burtonwood Environmental Improvements scheme involves a number of traffic management initiatives in the Clay Lane/Hayley Road area to deter through traffic and manage speeds through the village and surrounding road network.
It should result in safer, smoother journeys for all road users – including pedestrians and cyclists.
Improvements include carriageway resurfacing, installation of traffic management measures, new pedestrian crossings at key locations, junction improvements, road markings, street lighting, signage and minor landscaping.
The work, which began in April, was carried out in phases to minimise disruption to the local community and motorists.
Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for highways, transportation and public realm, Cllr Hans Mundry, said: “This project will bring massive benefits to the area, with a range of measures, from improved traffic management and carriageway surfacing, to better street lighting and pedestrian crossings. It will mean safer, smoother journeys for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. I’m delighted the work has been completed, on time and on budget.”
The improvements are the latest successfully delivered investments in the highway network in the west Warrington area following on from the completion of work on both M62 J8 and the widening of Burtonwood Road to two lanes, southbound, between Charon Way and the roundabout junction of Westbrook Way / Burtonwood Road. This wider investment strategy is aimed at reducing queue lengths and improving journey times and highway safety for local residents and business located in the area.
The council is promoting a further scheme to construct a footpath and cycleway between Omega North and Burtonwood which subject to the outcome of a public inquiry to be held in early November is programmed to start on site in the spring
