CHRIS Baron has returned to his role as strength and conditioning coach within Warrington Wolves’ performance team.
Baron (pictured left) previously held this role at the club for five years between 2010 and 2014. He was part of the performance team in the Challenge Cup winning years of 2010 and 2012, and when the club lifted the League Leaders Shield in 2011.
Prior to his time at the club he worked for Rugby Union side Leicester Tigers. Since moving on from Warrington he has taken on similar positions with both Widnes Vikings and Leigh Centurions as well as within the International England side.
Ade Gardner (pictured right), Warrington head of performance, said: “Chris is a fantastic addition to our performance team. He has been an instrumental part of England’s recent success and having worked here previously has a great relationship with the players as well as understanding the culture and values of the club.”
Baron added: “Warrington is a club I enjoyed some good times at. To be invited back on board is great and I’m really looking forward to it. There’s been a bit of change but there are still some familiar faces here. There will be the challenge of working with new people and new players, and I look forward to working with Ade (Gardner) as well who I think is really good at what he does. He’s got great potential and it will be good to be alongside someone young and hungry.
“I’ve got a lot of fond memories from Warrington so I couldn’t not follow them over the years. I always looked through the scores at a weekend and Warrington would always catch my eye. It’s a good place to be.
“Since I was last here I went travelling for a year, spent time at Sydney Roosters in the NRL followed by two years at Widnes and a year at Leigh too. I learnt a lot from these experiences as well as continuing my work with England with who I’ve now completed my eighth season.
“I’ve been away and looked at a few things and although things have changed you’ve still got to work hard, turn up with a good attitude and be surrounded by good people. I’d like to think I’ll add to that as I know some of these players and people and know what makes them tick.
“I’ve spoken to people about Steve Price – people like Wayne Bennett whose opinion you don’t take lightly – he seems to have similar values and ethics to me. Hopefully it will be a good fit.
“It’ll be fun to go in the home dug-out again too. I’ve missed it. It’s always a good atmosphere. The fans always turn out so I’m looking forward to that again.”
