Storm damage closes community centre

DAMAGE caused by Storm Doris has resulted in the complete closure of Frodsham Community Centre for two days.
Numerous events – including blood donor sessions involving hundreds of local people – had to be cancelled at the last minute.
High winds stripped roof felting from the building leaving the interior – revamped at a cost of more than £70,000 only last year – exposed to torrential rain.
The area worst affected was the main hall, where much of the improvement work had been carried out.
Roofers were on site as soon as the winds subsided and it was hoped to re-open some of the smaller rooms for the weekend.
A spokesman for Frodsham Community Association said: “We have had lots of help from volunteers.
“But we have to make the building waterproof.  There is heavy rain forecast and if it comes it could be disastrous.”
Scores of local organisation use the community centre every week and it is not yet clear what the effect on local events will be in the coming weeks.
Some organisations have sought alternative venues – but others are hoping to be able to go ahead at the community centre.
