Beauty spot restoration work nears completion

WORK on the restoration of a popular Warrington beauty spot is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
Local residents have been up in arms since desilting work took place last year, claiming the popular beauty spot had been left like an eyesore.
Clerk Peter Briggs told Stockton Heath Parish Council that savings had been made on the £33,935 contract awarded to David Webster and Son Ltd of Widnes to complete restoration work at Ackers Pit.. The final costs are expected to be just under £33,000.
The contract included a new weir feature in Mill Lane, grass seeding, new seating and work on the perimeter hedges
and footpaths. The company had obtained second-hand seating to save costs.
The beauty spot, owned by Stockton Heath Parish Council, has been the subject of restoration for more than 12 months.
So far more than £47,000 has been spent on earlier work including de-silting.
Proposals for the previous work were approved in February last year and work started in the spring. It was expected that the site would re-open last year.
Mr Briggs said additional work of turfing the footpath by Mill Lane had been approved. Grass seed had proved unsuccessful as it was eaten by ducks or carried into the water on their feet.
He said Baldwins Landscaping, involved in the original work, had also agreed a cost of £500 for the loan of fencing for 66 weeks.
He added Warrington Anglers had obtained a grant and would carry out aquatic planting on the banks in the spring.
