VISITORS gathered at Lymm Dam to mark the completion of improvement works funded by a £24,000 Environment Agency grant.
Representatives from Warrington Borough Council, the Environment Agency and Pushy Mothers, a buggy workout group for mums and mums-to-be, walked the new path on the western bank of the dam.
The footpath has been re-surfaced and provided with new safety fencing and repairs to steps, making it safer and more accessible to walkers.
The improvements were one of the proposed actions which helped the borough council win Green Flag status for Lymm Dam earlier this year. Work was made possible due the Environment Agency grant.
Coun Alan Litton, the council’s executive member for environment services, said: “The works that have taken place at Lymm Dam have made it easier and safer for visitors to enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Warrington has many such gems to enjoy – something that has been recognised by the increasing number of sites in the town that have been awarded Green Flag status.
“The fact that this work would not have taken place this year without the help of the Environment Agency shows just how important partnership working is in improving our borough, making it greener, cleaner and safer.”
Carol Lea, Environment Agency biodiversity officer, said: “We are delighted that our donation has led to improved recreation facilities at Lymm Dam. We hope it will attract many more visitors now that it also has been awarded a Green Flag.”
