FEARS that a play area on a new housing estate will cause road hazards, loss of privacy and noise disturbance, have been voiced by nearby residents.
Plans by Countryside Properties for a new play area on land at Millington Gardens, Lymm – part of the Heatley Mere housing development – have drawn protests from a local councillor and neighbours.
Eight people wrote letters of objection and there was a petition signed by 22 residents. Yet despite this planning officers are recommending the application be approved when it goes to Warrington’s development control committee on Wednesday September 3.
Coun Sheila Woodyatt said the scale, colour and type of equipment proposed is out of character with the area, and suggested a more rustic type of equipment.
And neighbours raised concerns about parking and highway safety, that on-street parking would restrict access for emergency vehicles, there would be noise disturbance and loss of privacy.
There is also the issue of safety of children playing near the Heatley Mere pond.
But planners say the development would not be detrimental to the area, would not harm road safety and would not mean loss of privacy for neighbours.
Planners say there is a need for a play site in the area and the site had been previously approved for this purpose. The proposed play area has been moved further away from the mere.
