Residents willing to work with police

RESIDENTS have been praised for their willingness to work with police to solve problems such as anti-social behaviour, drinking and drugs.
More than 30 residents attended a police Community Action Meeting (CAM) for the Howley and Fairfield areas of Warrington to discuss issues affecting their everyday lives.
The sheer numbers of people willing to speak to police has impressed officers from Warrington Central Neighbourhood Policing Unit.
Police Community Support Officer Kath Harkin, said: “This is exactly what CAMs are supposed to be about – local people meeting with police and other agencies to discuss problems and, hopefully, start to come up with solutions.
“This process can only work if residents take the time to attend the meetings and we are really encouraged by the response of residents in the Howley and Fairfield area.
“I am delighted that so many people are taking an interest in what is happening in their area and how we address those issues that will make a real difference to their quality of life.”
Residents were given presentations and then asked to identify policing priorities for the next nine weeks – setting the agenda for bobbies and PCSOs alike.
Anti-social behaviour, drinking and drugs were identified as the three main areas of concern and police, together with partner agencies, will now look at how these can be tackled to establish long-term reductions.
At another CAM at Orford, 15 members of the community quizzed police on what they had been doing during the past few months.
PCSO Harkin said: “We have been busy looking to tackle nuisance youths and anti-social behaviour in the area, but residents have pointed out some fresh problems that we will now take a look at.
“There are issues with youngsters being abusive in Cabul Close and Quebec Road and there also seems to be an issue with vandalism in the same area.
“Now that the issue has been raised we will be stepping up patrols in the area and working with local people to develop effective ways of dealing with the problem.”
