EX-Land Girls and others who helped in the war effort during World War 1 or World War 2 are being urged to apply for veteran’s badges.
Warrington South MP Helen Southworth is encouraging local people who were in the Women’s Land Army and the Timber Corps to apply for the badges which are awarded by the Government in recognition of the tremendous efforts of those women who served on the land and in forests during the war.
The badge, which has been specially designed by the Garter King at Arms and bears the Royal Crown, shows a gold wheat sheaf on a white background surrounded by a circlet of pine branches and pine cones to indicate the work of both the Land Army and the Timber Corps.
Mrs Southworth said: “I am really pleased that all veterans who have served their country continue to receive the recognition they deserve for the sacrifices they made for us all. I would encourage everyone who served in the Land Army or Timber Corps, indeed everyone who served in the armed forces, to apply for their badge”.
More information on how to apply for the Land Army and Timber Corps Veterans Badge or the UK Armed Forces Veterans Badge is available from Mrs Southworth’s Warrington office on 01925 240002 or on email from southworthh@parliament.uk.
