YOUNG cricket stars from the Warrington area are being invited to a special event designed to bring people together from across Cheshire.
Cheshire Police are staging “Culture Splash Cricket” at Moss Farm – home of Northwich Cricket Club – for a day of coaching and competition.
Constable Lesley Price, the event organiser, said: “We want young people from all over Cheshire to come along to Moss Farm and enjoy a day of cricket.
“We will have top coaches from the England and Wales Cricket Board on hand to pass on their knowledge of the game.
“Who knows, we might even unearth the next great international cricketer to follow in the footsteps of Pietersen, Warne or Tendulkar.”
The event is due to take place on July 21 with coaching sessions in the morning followed by limited overs tournaments in the afternoon and Lesley hopes that sport will bring the youngsters together.
She added: “The whole aim is to gather in young people from all areas of the county, and all backgrounds, and get them to mix and mingle by enjoying a sporting event. We have had excellent support from the ECB, Cheshire Cricket Board, Government Office North West, Chance to Shine (the Cricket Foundation’s campaign to bring cricket to a third of the country’s state schools). Cheshire Police Authority and the Cheshire Black Police Association. Now all we need are the youngsters to play the games.”
Culture Splash Cricket is open to all young people aged between 13 and 20 and will run from 9.30am – 3.30pm. Anyone interested in taking part should email to culture.splash@cheshire.pnn.police.uk.
