VETERANS, residents and army, sea and air cadets joined together for Warrington’s annual Anzac day service.
The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Ted Finnegan, led the service by laying a wreath at Soldier’s Corner, Warrington Cemetery which commemorated the centenary of the battle of Gallipoli in 1915 and the thousands who gave their lives.
Warrington Borough Council also received messages from school children in Australia to place on the graves of Australian servicemen buried at the cemetery. The messages of hope and thanks were written on small wooden crosses and pay respects to those who died while on active service.
Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The annual service commemorates the anniversary of Australian and New Zealand forces landing at Gallipoli during World War One.
