YOU’RE hired – that was the message for an outstanding Warrington apprentice at the North West Learner Awards 2008.
Alisha Cooper from Warrington Collegiate was crowned Apprentice of the Year at the award ceremony after studying NVQ Level 3 in hairdressing.
Alisha, 18, beat of stiff competition from colleges all over the North West in a high-standard contest.
She said: “Winning the award was completely unexpected because the standard of the others in the competition was so high.
“With the support of the staff at the Collegiate and my family, I’ve worked extremely hard so it is nice to be recognised for my achievements.”
Alisha worked in her mum’s salon in Warrington since the age of 13 and now believes she is destined to pursue a career in the vocation.
She added: “I’ve worked in hairdressing since I was 13 and it is an industry I love so in the future I’m hoping to open my own salon and train other young people who share my passion.”
Hairdressing trainer at the collegiate, Victoria Stafford, commented: “Everyone in the department is so proud of Alisha, she has worked exceptionally hard and this award is well deserved.
“It goes to show that our students are making the most of the new facilities here at the Collegiate and are reaping the rewards.”
