WARRINGTON’S first ever literature festival takes place in April and features a series of talks and special events.
Culture Warrington is organising the festival which starts on Friday April 12 when Liverpool author Deborah Morgan will speak at Penketh Library.
She will be signing copies of her book Disappearing Home. The first chapter was runner-up in the Pulp Idol writing contest at Liverpool’s 2010 Writing on the Wall Festival.
Warrington’s rich industrial history will be explored by local author Janice Hayes. She will give tips on researching times gone by and family history at Warrington Museum on Wednesday April 17.
Budding writers and journalists will have the chance to attend a workshop on how to write non-fiction and make money out of freelance writing delivered by Claire Gillman at Pyramid on Thursday April 18.
Claire has been a professional writer for more than 25 years editing many consumer magazines and contributing to newspapers including The Times and Guardian.
World Book Night will be celebrated on Tuesday April 23 with book gifting sessions at Pyramid and the bus interchange. People can visit from 5pm to get or donate a free book.
The festival finale is on Thursday April 25 with a Poetry Slam at the Pyramid. Poems are judged on the writing, performance and how much the audience enjoys the work.
Gemma Johnson, Culture Warrington manager, said: “Reading is very important as it exercises our brains by teaching us new things. It would be great to see people in Warrington show their love for books by attending these events.”
