Cheshire Police is urging residents to be vigilant against burglary and help protect their homes from criminals.

Now the clocks have gone back and the darker nights are creeping in, residents are being urged to ensure their homes are secure to deter any criminals hoping to operate under the cover of darkness.
Some crime prevention advice includes:
• Consider installing a video doorbell and CCTV cameras and ensure these are working correctly.
• Timer switches allow table lamps, standard lamps and radios to turn on around the home as it gets dark to make it look as if someone is at home.
• Fit external security lights around your home, garage or any sheds etc.
• Gravel driveways and paths will make sure you hear anyone approach.
• Ensure that your home is kept secure at all times, with windows and doors locked.
• Consider an accredited burglar alarm system with audible alarm boxes mounted high at the front and rear of your home.
• Keep desirable items out of view to passers-by, including car keys – valuables should not be visible from windows and doors in your home.
• Don’t leave your vehicle insecure and never leave it running and unattended when warming up/defrosting the vehicle.

Detective Inspector David Jarvis said: “We’re urging residents to remain security conscious and to take a few simple steps to ensure their home is secure – especially as the darker nights draw in.
“We’re committed to doing all that we can to tackle this type of crime and as part of this we need the continued support of the local community.
“I would ask all residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately.
“Anyone with information about this type of crime is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or report online.
“Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
“Always dial 999 in an emergency.”
