A pair of homeless moggies are hoping to find a new family as a charity’s annual Black Cat Day today shines a spotlight on monochrome moggies.
Brothers Trevor and Louis found themselves in the care of Cats Protection Warrington Cat Centre after their owner felt compelled to give them up after they became unsettled with the arrival of a new baby in the house.
Trevor, 11, and Louis, 10, have proved themselves to be incredibly sweet and gentle, showing no adverse signs of the upheaval they have faced.
But having already spent more than four months patiently waiting for a new home, staff and volunteers at the centre in Elizabeth Drive, Padgate, are desperate to find them a family so they can once again settle back into the cozy lives of pampered pets.
Deputy Centre Manager Emma Harris said: “Trevor and Louis’ owners reluctantly gave up their cats believing they would be better off in a quiet home without the stress of a young baby, and where they would be the centre of attention once again.
“They are an incredibly bonded pair so must be homed together. Rehoming a pair of older cats can sometimes be tricky but we are hopeful that this appeal will reach the right eyes and someone will fall in love with them.”
Cats Protection has long-championed black cats, having set up National Black Cat Day in 2011 to raise awareness that black and black-and-white cats at its centres took a week longer than those of other colours to be adopted, now it takes just two days longer.
Black and black-and-white cats make up around 45% of the charity’s cats at any given time and it has homed over 100,000 black and black-and-white cats through its centres since 2010.
Emma added: “We do see a lot of black and black-and-white cats and fortunately we don’t usually have issues finding them families as we are able to carefully match a cat’s personality with a potential adopter. Our adopters are often surprised when they are drawn to a different cat from the one they liked the appearance of online but, like any relationship, we know personality makes all the difference when finding your perfect new feline family member.”
