Ever wanted a way to enrich almost any train or car journey? A way to fascinate yourself in almost any town and place with buildings? A way to start to notice things which few others do, but are there hiding in plain sight? Then consider the rooftop world of Chimney Pots!
Warrington has an abundance of them.
Tim Prevett, who started the Chimney Pot Appreciation Society on Facebook in 2008, is looking to see how interest in chimney pots translates into tours of towns’ rooftops, with that group now passing 4000 members.
Tim comments, “Just about everywhere I go I notice the chimney pots; having worked as a tour guide and encouraging people to see places in a different light, the world of chimney pots and other rooftop interests hides within plain sight – but is ready to be explored if you only take the time and look. These tours are to enthuse people to see this heritage, which is there to be enjoyed.”
Tim comments, “I have put this tour together to give as much chimney-pot enjoyment in an easy Warrington town centre route as possible, and to get us all to view our every day environments with fresh eyes and new interest. It’s such a good feeling to go somewhere you have been hundreds of times and see new-to-you angles and features which were there waiting all along.”
Bring your camera and join Tim pleasure for a tour pondering aspects of Chimney Pots you may never have considered, with insights and tips for enjoying and photographing the world of Chimney Pots which surrounds us in almost every built up environment. You will never see Warrington in the same way again.
EVENT DETAILS: See heritageopendays.org.uk and search “what’s on” for this and other Heritage Open Days events to visit. This tour runs from 1000 through to about 1130, pre-booking required due to space limitations in town centre spaces.
