Drivers planning to attend an unauthorised car meet at Junction Nine Retail Park later this month have been warned they face enforcement action if they engage in dangerous driving or anti-social behaviour.
Cheshire Police has become aware of social media posts advertising a meet at Junction Nine Retail Park on Saturday, 24 October.
Police have stressed the event has not been authorised by the landowner, Cheshire Constabulary or Warrington Borough Council.
The warning follows previous car meets at the location, which have attracted large crowds and caused significant disruption, with reports of dangerous driving, excessive noise and anti-social behaviour.
At two recent meets, police seized numerous vehicles and made an arrest in connection with activity at the events.
Officers say the meets can cause alarm and distress to residents, businesses, shoppers and other legitimate users of the retail park.
Cheshire Police is working with retail park management and other partners to prevent further disruption, with both uniformed and plain-clothed officers expected to be deployed in the area throughout Saturday.
Sergeant Matt Salmon, of the Northern Problem Solving and Prevention Team, said: “Junction 9 Retail Park is a busy retail park, which is popular with shoppers from across the area, and it is simply not the place for hundreds of motorists to use as their personal racetrack – disregarding not only their own safety but the safety of other road users, pedestrians and any responding police officers or emergency service workers.
“Following the reports of the unauthorised car meet occurring on Saturday 24 October 2026, we’ve been working closely with management of the retail park.
“Both uniformed and plain-clothed officers will be present in the area throughout the day, actively targeting antisocial behaviour and dangerous driving.
“We do not conduct enforcement operations on our roads to spoil the fun; we do this to prevent serious collisions that can have serious consequences, which Warrington has sadly and tragically experienced in the past.
“With this in mind, we would like to warn those planning on attending the location that we are aware it is taking place, we will be present and anyone who breaks the law will face the consequences.”
