New plans to restore historic Grappenhall Rectory building

PLANS to to reinstate as much of the original Grappenhall Rectory building as is possible and, where not possible, to match with new windows and other elements have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

The Listed Georgian-style building, dating from 1830, has been standing empty and deteriorating for many years. The date when it was last occupied is not known.

But over time the building has deteriorated due to water penetration, theft, vandalism and the removal of some windows and a very prominent front Gothic portal sandstone entrance.
Aim of the new application is to restore the building to its original state to provide a family home.
All blocked up windows would be reinstated and existing windows repaired. A new porch at the front entrance would replicate the original, along with the original sandstone steps.
The roof would be repaired, using matching slates and there would be new glazing throughout.
Internally, the original Georgian staircase would be repaired, along with skirtings, architraves and panelled doors. There would be new mouldings, ceilings and plaster wall finishes.
Planning officers are now studying the proposals.
